The space above your bed can be a bit of an awkward one to decorate, right?! I'm working on a mini makeover of one of our bedrooms and trying to find some new above bed decor. I went looking for inspiration to help me figure out what I want to do with that space and have rounded up eight fun ideas to share with you! 1. Round Mirror
Mirrors are always a great bet for above bed decor and that's actually what I have above the bed in our guest room right now. I love the look! I think that round is the shape that work best – there are a ton of beautiful options including round mirrors with a metal finish like mine that I found {here}:

or textured mirrors such as a rope mirror or {this gorgeous rattan mirror}:
I also have {this gorgeous round mirror} above the bed in our guest room in NC and it's a stunner:

The best size round mirror for over your bed is going to vary depending upon the height of your headboard and your ceilings but the mirror in our guest room is 32″ in diameter to give you a ballpark to work from. These are some of my favorite round mirrors that are in the 28″ – 32″ range:

2. Decorative Plates
If you've seen my dining room, you know that I love a good plate wall and I think a plate arrangement over the bed can be a real statement maker! You can choose to arrange the plates symmetrically or asymmetrically and go with colorful plates that tie into the colors in your room or keep it simple with only white plates like in this beautiful bedroom designed by Emily of Timeless Paper:
3. Baskets
Hang a single large basket such as this shallow black and white basket is a simple but beautiful above bed decor idea:

or a grouping of smaller baskets above the bed like Summer of Simple Stylings did so beautifully in her bedroom – love this!

4. Ledge Shelf
Hanging a ledge shelf above your bed gives you a place to layer artwork (be sure to secure any leaning pictures to the wall!) and other items that are meaningful to you. And you can change it up seasonally just like a fireplace mantel. Love this ledge shelf (found {here}) in the Seadrift finish:
5. Art
That awkward space above the bed is a great place to hang art! There are a ton of art arrangements that would work – in my daughter's room, I hung two art prints side by side. I had lyrics from one of her favorite songs printed out so her art is personalized and special! (the Etsy shop that did it for me closed so you can look at other Etsy shops that offer custom lyric artwork {here})

And since I know sizing details can be helpful, for reference her frames are approximately 20″ x 30″ (I got mine at Hobby Lobby years ago but {these frames} look identical). And being the safety nut I am, since my daughter was fairly young when I got them, I removed the glass on the frames so they are lightweight and wouldn't hurt her if they somehow fell.
Other options are to hang a single statement piece of art over the bed, a gallery wall arrangement of art pieces in various sizes or multiple same-size art pieces arranged in a grid like Kelley Nan did so beautifully in her guest bedroom:

6. Decals
Whether you go with initials or a more intricate design, decals like {this one} are a great choice for above bed decor in a kid's room since it eliminates the worry of having something fall off the wall and onto your kiddo when things get a little rowdy :):
The options for decals are literally endless because there are so many shops (you can browse some {here}) that will make a custom decal of any words or design that you'd like!
7. Juju Hat
If you love decor with a more organic feel, a feathery juju hat might be just the thing! I absolutely love how it looks above the bed in CC & Mike's beautiful bedroom:

8. Anything Uniquely You!
There are so many unique options for over the bed decor that are uniquely you! It could be something you collect, family memories, or gear related to a favorite sport. If you love boating, hang a pair of oars over the bed like in this beautiful bedroom:

or if you have a love of tennis, hang a pair of crossed tennis rackets over your bed. The more personal and unique the idea, the better!
